The Laxmi Narayan temple was established by the King of Tripura, Birendra Kishore Manikya from the 1909-1923 within the Ujjayanta Palace ground. But the idol of Lord Kirshna had been consecrated inside the sanctum sanctorum some 45 years back by the Krishnananda Sevayet of the temple.
Legend
According the Bhagavata, Tamal tree has a close association with the life sport of Lord Krishna. Thus, the Sevayet planted a Tamal Tree in front of the Laxmi Narayan temple around 35 years ago. Every year, Janmastami- the birthday of Lord Krishna is celebrated grandly inside the temple campus and the palace grounds. During this time, the devotees come across from various parts of the state and from outside to offer prayers to Lord Krishna.

The two storied huge temple of Lord Krishna entice pilgrims with its grandness. The while colored temple at the entrance of the Ujjayanta Palace is a must visit for not only sake of pilgrimage, but this is one of the major grand architectures in Tripura. Made by the Maharaja of Tripura Birendra Kishore Manikya from the 1909-1923, the Sevayet of the Laxmi Narayan temple established the idol of Sri Krishna around 45 years back. The white edifice symbolizes peace and sanctity.
