Keesara Gutta Ramalingeswara Devasthanam
Telangana, Rangareddy, Hyderabad

Located in the Keesara village, Keesaragutta Temple also called as Ramalingeshwara Swamy Temple is a famous temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is believed that the Shiv lingam in this temple was installed by Lord Hanuman. Situated on the top of a hill in the Rangareddy district, the temple was constructed during Chalukyan Empire reign.
Legend
According to the legends, Sri Rama wanted to install a Siva lingam here to relieve himself from the sin of killing Ravana, a Brahmin. Lord Rama ordered Hanuman to bring Shiv Lingam from Varanasi. However, Hanuman became late and Lord Rama installed another Shiva Lingam as the auspicious hour was nearing. Hence the lingam in the temple came to be called as Ramalingeswara. Hanuman arrived from Varanasi with 101 lingams and he felt sad for not being able to fulfill his Lord’s wish. He threw the Shiv Lingams in the area. Seeing Hanuman’s sadness, Rama told that precedence would be given to Hanuman at the temple. Rama also told that the hill would bear Hanuman’s name ‘Kesarigiri’ that is son of Kesari. Later it changed to Keesara and at present known as Keesaragutta.
