Dedicated to Maa Aadi Shakti (avatar of goddess Durga), Jhandewalan Temple is an ancient and famous temple located on Jhandewalan Road on the way to Karol Bagh, Delhi. The temple got the name 'Jhandewalan' during the reign of Shah Jahan, due to the prayer flags or 'jhandas' being offered to the Goddess. The temple is open to all devotees irrespective of caste or creed.
Legend
According to the legends, once upon a time, Jhandewalan temple was situated in a mountain area and people found the idol of the Goddess when they dug up the place. Later, a temple was established there at the present location. According to another legend, Goddess gave darshan to Badri Bhagat, an ardent devotee of the Goddess in a dream and told him about the idol. After he found the idol, a temple was established there.
Architecture
The upper level of the temple has divine idol of Mata Jhandewali. There are idols of other Gods also at the same level. At the ground level, the original idol of Jhandewali Mata is there. There is a divine place for performing Shiv puja in the adjoining area at the lower level itself.

Temple Rituals
Everyday morning havan and kirtan (prayers) are carried out in the temple. The temple remains open on Sunday,Tuesday and in the afternoon of Astami. On every Astami of Shukla Paksha , there will be Jagran (prayers throughout night) starting at 10:00 PM.
