Elamannam Sree Sankaranarayana Swamy Temple, from its inception, has been owned by Payikkat Mana. Now the Malabar Devaswom Board has the overall control of the temple, though the ooralar reserves the right to appoint the manager.
Legend
The sila idol was spotted when a woman sharpening her sickle found blood coming out from the stone. The consecreation rites of the idol was done following a prasna and the temple was built later. It is believed that the temple dates back to the 13th century.
Architecture
Elamannam Sree Sankaranarayana Swamy Temple complex has sreekovil, namaskara mandapam, chuttambalam with agramandapam, sub shrines, pathayapuram and gopuram. The sreekovil is circular and dwi-tala and faces east. The granite dwarapalas are examples of excellent carving.
