Chintaman Ganesh temple

Chintaman Ganesh is the biggest temple of Lord Ganesha in Ujjain. This temple is built near the Kshipra river. The Lord here is believed to remove all worries from his devotees' life. The temple which originally dates back to 11th or 12th century, was reconstructed during Maratha period.
Legend
The legend behind the temple believes that Lord Ganesh came on the earth and created a temple for himself at Ujjain so that his followers can worship him here.
Architecture
The temple reflects the Maratha style with a fort-like wall on the outside. The mandapa and the garbhagriha have a domed shaped shikhar. The mandapa has artistically etched pillars. The shrine also has a pradikshina path around it. The Ganesh idol enshrined here is supposed to be swayambhu. Riddhi and Siddhi, the consorts of Ganesha, are seated on either side of Ganesha.

Ujjain on the banks of Kshipra river was the capital of the Avanti Kingdom. It is a famous pilgrimage centre for Shaivites, Vaishnavite and followers of Shakthism. It is one of the places where Kumbh mela is held.
