Charantala Temple

Situated in West Garo hills, Manipur, the Charantala temple is a famous temple dedicated to Goddess Kali. The temple is considered as the most visited pilgrimage destination in Garo hills of Meghalaya.The temple was built in 1965. As per the Hindu calendar, a three-day annual prayer ceremony is held during the month of April or May.
Legend
According to the legends, the temple was constructed after an epidemic struck the village, leading to huge loss of life. On the instructions of a fortune teller from Bangladesh, prayers and offerings were made to Goddess Kali, which apparently put an end to the deaths.
Architecture
The temple was built brick by brick to bring to its present shape with generous donations from the devotees in the last five decades. At present, the reconstruction work of the temple is undergoing.
