Bade Ganeshji ka Mandir

Located near the famed Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga in the holy city of Ujjain, is the temple of Bade Ganeshji. The temple derives its name from the large statue of Lord Ganesha. The temple is also famous for the five-faced Hanuman idol. This temple has been established by freedom fighter Pandit Surya Narayan Vyas.
Legend
Though the temple is named after the large sized idol of Lord Ganesha, the Panchmukhi (five faced) idol of Hanuman made of eight metals (ashtadhatu) is the attraction of the shrine. It is believed that Lord Hanuman took the Panchamukhi forms with the faces of Hanuman, Hayagriva, Narasimha, Garuda and Varaha to save Lord Rama and Lakshman from patala.
Architecture
This temple, situated above the tank near the Mahakaleshwar Temple, is simple in its exteriors and contain a huge artistic sculpture of Lord Ganesha in its sanctum. The idol with its size and beauty stands apart from any other Ganesha idols in the country. The middle of the temple is adorned by an idol of the panch-mukhi or five-faced Hanuman. This idol of Hanuman is made of eight metals (ashtadhatu). There are also idols of baby Krishna in the arms of his mother Yashodha, and Goddess Kali, on her lion vehicle.

Culture
Ujjain on the banks of Kshipra river was the capital of the Avanti Kingdom. It is a famous pilgrimage centre for Shaivites, Vaishnavite and followers of Shakthism. It is one of the places where Kumbh mela is held.

The priests perform regular puja and rituals. Aartis are done to the deities.
