Amba Bhawani temple, Ambika Devi Temple

Amba Bhavani temple is one of the oldest shrine of Ambala city. In fact, the name of the city is believed to have derived from this shrine. It is  is listed amongst the most sacred religious places in Haryana. The shrine is believed to be constructed by the Pandavas in the period during the Kurukshetra war. The temple was attacked many times by the Mughal rulers but was later reconstructed

Legend

It is believed that the temple was constructed during the period of the Kurukshetra war by the Pandavas.

Architecture

The shrine is octagonal shaped with a dome shaped roof. The dome is painted in red and gold, with a gold kalash on the top. The front face of the octagon wall has the image of Goddess Durga and the adjoining two are entrance to the shrine. The temple houses idols of Amba, Ambika and Ambalika.

Naivedyam is given to the Goddess from 12pm to 1pm. During this time the devotees are not allowed to enter the temple.
