Located at Horanadu, Karnataka, Adhishakthyathmaka Sri Annapoorneshwari Ammanavara Temple is a famous temple dedicated to Goddess Annapoorneshwari. The temple is also known as Sri Kshethra Horanadu. The prathistapana of Goddess Annapoorneshwari was done by His Holiness Agasthya Maharishi several centuries back. It is one of the few temple in India dedicated to Goddess Annapoorneshwari.

Legend

According to the legends, the prathistapana of Goddess Annapoorneshwari was done by His Holiness Agasthya Maharishi. It is believed that once Lord Shiva was cursed and when he came here and accepted alms from Annapoorneshwari, the curse was lifted.

Architecture

The main temple is small, however, well organized. There is a beautiful arch at the entrance of the temple. Devotees have to climb a few steps to reach the main temple complex. The Gopuram of the Temple is adorned with various sculptures of Gods and Goddesses. There is a mandapam on the left of the main entrance. There is a queue complex next to the Mandapam for entry into the main hall where Annadanam is conducted everyday. The ceilings of the temple are carved meticulously. The idol of the Goddess Annapoorneshwari is made of gold. The idol of the Goddess is in a standing posture on a peeta with four hands, each holding a Shanku, Chakra, Sri Chakra and Devi Gayathri.

The temple opens from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM and from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Darsan Dresscode

Devotees are advised to dress appropriately. Male visitors to the temple should not cover the chest with clothes and preferably cover their shoulders with a towel or a shawl.
