Goddess Anikkattilamma Temple
Kerala, Pathanamthitta, Thiruvananthapuram

Anikkattilamma Temple is one of the rarest temple in Kerala dedicated to Lord Adiparasakthi Sivan and Goddess Parvathi. Both Adiparasakthi Sivan and Goddess Parvathi are worshiped with equal significance in one Sreekovil. Situated in Anicadu Village in Pathanamthitta district, Kerala, it is estimated that the temple came into existence around 1600 years ago during the early days of Edapally dynasty.
Legend
Adiparasakthi Sivan and Goddess Parvathi are worshiped with equal significance in one Sreekovil, which is one of the rarest of its kind in Kerala. The deities are symbolized by the idols of Agnimahakalan and Agniyekshi, each measuring about 4 feet and installed side by side. Lord Shiva is in his tribal incarnation of Kiratha with bow and arrow in His arms and Parvati has a sword in Her hand.
Architecture
The temple follows the patterns of Kerala architecture, which has got unique characteristics. It is in contrast to the Dravidian architecture as practiced in others of South India. Even though influence of Dravidian architecture is found in Kerala style, it also has prominent shades of Indian Vedic architectural science (Vastu Shastra) and also stamps of the historical influence of contact with maritime trading partners like Chinese, Arabs and Europeans. Classical Indian architectural works like the Tantrasamuchaya, Thachu-Shastra, Manushyalaya-Chandrika and Silparatna also find their influence in Kerala Architecture.
