Pancharama Kshetra Darshan Yatra -

Pancharama Kshetra Darshan Yatra

The five fragments of Lingam

The Lingam is the symbol of energy, endless and infinite. It is also the abstract representation of the eternal power of Shiva. The five scattered fragments of the Shivlingam installed by Vishnu, Indra, Surya, Chandra and Kumanaraswamy at five different places along the terrain of Andhra Pradesh has given rise to the five sacred shrines of Lord Shiva or the Pancharamas.  Amararama, Draksharama, Somarama, Ksheerarama, Kumararama  are these five spots of holiness. Traditionally done in one day, the Pancharama Kshetra darshan yatra is considered to appease the Lord to shower his blessings on his devotees.

The legend regarding the origin of Pancharama kshetra describes the war between Lord Kumara Swamy and Tarakasura. As per the legend,  no one could win over  the Asura due to the power of the Sivalinga on his body. Kumara Swamy repeatedly broke the body of the demon into pieces but it re-unified again. That was when Lord Vishnu suggested to Kumara Swamy to first break the Shiva Lingam worn by the asura. As instructed, Kumara Swamy used his Aagneyastra to break the Lingam worn by Taraka. These five fragments were fixed at five places and temple built on them.  All the five Shivalinga in these five places have got scaly markings believed to be formed by the power of Agneyasthra. Over the years, the journey to these five shrines evolved into the holy Pancharama darshan Yatra.
