Located at Markapur in Andhra Pradesh, Sri Lakshmi Chennakesava Swamy Temple is a famous pilgrimage center dedicated to Lord Chennakesava Swamy, a form of Lord Vishnu. Situated on the banks of the Gundlakamma river, the temple was built by the Vijayanagar rulers between 1405-1459 AD.
According to the legends, it is believed that Lord Vishnu killed Kesi, a demon at this place and Lord came to be called Kesava. The idol of Lord Vishnu is accompanied by his consort Goddess Lakshmi.
The temple is built in Vijayanagara style of architecture. The huge Galigopuram of the temple is 135 ft tall. The temple is known for its superb carvings and the musical notes which emanate from its intricately sculpted pillars.
