Baba Baidyanath Temple

Baidyanath Jyotirlinga temple, also known as Baba Baidyanath dham and Baidyanath dham is one of the most sacred abodes dedicated to Lord Shiva. Located in Deoghar, Jharkhand, Baidyanath dham is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas temples. The temple houses 21 other temples. This ancient temple has been mentioned in several ancient scriptures. The temple administartion is under Baba Baidyanath Temple Management Board.

Legend

Once Ravana, who was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva, did penance to bring the Lord to Lanka. Pleased with his penance, Lord Shiva appeared in front of Ravana and promised him that he will come with Ravana in the form of Shiva Lingam. Architecture

Baidyanath dham temple is lotus shaped and is 72 feet tall. Both the ancient and modern style of architecture is seen in the temple. Here, the Baidyanath faces the east. Darsan Info

Timings : Everyday, the temple opens at 4 AM with the Shodashopachar by the Main Purohit. After the main pujanarchana to the Lingam, the pilgrims are allowed inside the garbhagriha to offer their puja to the Lord until 3.30 PM. After that, the doors are closed. From 6  PM onwards the door of the main temple is again opened for the devotees of Mahadev.

Pilgrims from the other parts of the country have to avail train and have to alight by the Jasidih Railway Station. From there, the devotees can hire a taxi or can get bus for Deoghar. Those who are coming via air will either have to land at the Birsha Munda Airport at Ranchi or at Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Airport, Patna. Patna is closer to Deoghar. Pilgrims can hire a cab or get into a train from the airport to reach Deoghar. The city is well connected with many major roads across India. Regular buses are available from Deoghar to Dhanbad, Bokaro,  Ranchi, Jamshedpur, and Bardhaman (WB).

Regular Offerings

Villa Patra, Sandalpaste of Malaygiri, incense, Dhara (a pot full of holy fluid is placed on top of Lord's Jata Mukut from which the drops fall on the Shiva Lingam. It is believed by the Hindus that this fluid of ganga water, ghee, milk, honey and other ingredients keep Lord Shiva cool and calm.)
