Chhattisgarh, Kanker

Located in the Kanker District, Chhattisgarh, Shivani Temple also known as Shivani Maa Temple is a famous temple dedicated to a combination of two Goddesses, Durga Maa and Kali Maa. It is one of the  oldest temples in the city.

According to the legends, the chief deity of this temple is a combination of two Goddesses, Kali Maa and Durga Maa. The vertically half part is of Goddess Kali and the remaining half part is of goddess Durga. This type of statue is only two in numbers in whole world. One is in Kolkata and another is in Kanker.

The structure of the temple portrays the ancient style of building temples and reflects an ethnic and traditional look. It is said that if one considers the idol in a vertical manner, one half is Goddess Kali, the remaining half being that of Goddess Durga. Such architectural grandeur of an idol is only present in two places in the world- one here in Kanker, Chhattisgarh and the other is in Kolkata.
